Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”

There is an old hymn that goes, ‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, Just to take Him at His Word, Just to rest upon His promise, Just to know, ‘Thus saith the Lord.’ Truly, it is so sweet to simply trust in the name of Jesus. When we trust in Him and His Word, He provides us with a peace that surpasses all understanding. When we don’t, we become very anxious. That’s why we are encouraged in Proverbs 3:5 to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” Solomon wrote these words to his son, because with all of the wisdom Solomon had received, this truth always remained in tact. God is worthy to be trusted. He doesn’t leave us nor forsake us. He is always listening. He answers every prayer, even when it is a no. He knows best because His ways are not our ways, they are higher. He sees the grand picture which we are not always able to comprehend. This is why it is so dangerous for us to become impatient and try to fix the problem ourselves. Out of our lack of understanding, we usually make the situation much worse. We may not always understand the reason behind the storm, but we must choose to trust in the Lord with all our heart. In other words, with every possible emotion we experience in our trials on this Earth, we will make the willful decision to trust God, because even though it makes little sense to us, we know He truly is just and He knows best. This does require us to swallow our pride and simply let God be God. But, be encouraged today to know that God has always been God, He currently is God, and He always will be God. He never changes; He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He was faithful then, and He will be faithful now. Simply take Him at His Word, rest upon His promises, and know, ‘Thus saith the Lord.’
